A UPS System is basically a bank of batteries that are wired so that you have a seamless transition in the event of a power failure. An inverter converts the DC battery voltage into the AC voltage needed to run appliances and lights.
At the completion of the electrical installation works, the entire installation shall be subject to the test before final placing in service under the full responsibility of the contractor. Unless otherwise specifically called for all tests shall be carried out in conformity with IEE regulations. The contractor shall coordinate with the Client and the Supervising Engineer to get electricity from the local supply authority before starting of testing and commissioning.
DB Board Wiring
Wiring a Distribution Board [DB] is vital in any electrical installation. All the electrical sub-circuits are originated from a Distribution Board. The Main feeder cable to the Distribution Board should be able to handle the total power anticipated when all the subcircuits in the Distribution Board are in use. A Sub Circuit can be an electric cable distributing power to few lights, or a socket outlet/s through an MCB device or a Fuse in the Distribution Board. Here we are considering a Distribution Board with MCBs [Miniature Circuit Breakers] for power distribution.
Grid Tied Systems
Grid-tied systems consist of only 2 key components – solar panels and a dedicated grid-tied inverter. All the electric power generated by the solar panels feeds through a mains synchronized inverter directly into your distribution board and offsets the power you would normally consume from Eskom.
Off Grid Systems
An off-grid solar system is not connected to the electricity grid and requires battery storage. Off-grid solar systems must be designed correctly in order to generate enough power throughout the year and have the necessary battery capacity to meet the installed locations electrical energy requirements or demand.
Hybrid Solar Systems
Hybrid solar systems generate power in the same way as a common grid-tie solar system but use special hybrid inverters and batteries to store energy for later use. This ability to store energy enables most hybrid systems to also operate as a backup power supply during a blackout, similar to a UPS system.
